Joey was born in Brooklyn in 1977, and at age 13 he and his family moved to Orlando, FL, where he attended Dr. Phillips High School, and where he currently lives. In high school, he was a member of the singing group "The Big Guys" (along with Latin music artist Luis Fonsi). After graduation, he worked at Universal Studios in the Beetlejuice's Graveyard Review. It was there that he met Chris Kirkpatrick, who was also working at Universal.

At the age of 7, Joey was an extra in the movie "Once Upon a Time In America", which starred Robert DeNiro. Joey has appeared in many TV shows and movies throughout his career such as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Bros., On The Line, Kim Possible, Touched By An Angel, and The Cooler.

Joey has appeared on Broadway in RENT and Little Shop of Horrors.

Joey was the host of "Fame" in 2003. He is currently appearing on Dancing with the Stars.

In 2002, Joey was nominated (along with the rest of the cast of My Big Fat Greek Wedding) for Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture in the SAG awards.

In 2003, Joey was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Reality/Variety Host for "Fame".v Joey has recorded multiple albums with *NSYNC as well as solo songs on the On The Line soundtrack, and collaborated with Blaque on the song "As If" from the movie Bring it On.

Joey is working with Lance Bass on creating an "Odd Couple"-like sitcom for the CW network. Lance is also the godfather of Briahna.

Joey has appeared on MTV's Cribs, where he revealed that he owns one of the original "Kitt" cars from Knightrider, as well as a plethora of Star Wars and Superman memorabilia.
